Starts:- Monday 18th February(sessions run every Monday and Wednesday evening at 6pm for eight weeks, plus a vineyard visit)

NB: This Level 3 course will be taught over 8 weeks  (16 sessions, plus a vineyard visit and exam). Please note the Level 3 Award in Wines course is a significant study commitment. As well as attending the sessions it is recommended that you complete a further 50 hours of private study during the eight week duration.

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

The WSET Level 3 Award is intended to provide in-depth knowledge of a wide range of wines and is open to students who hold the WSET Level 2 Certificate or can demonstrate knowledge at a similar level through completion of equivalent courses or sufficient experience in the wine industry.

This qualification is also suitable for the wine enthusiast wishing to build on knowledge gained at Level 2.

All sessions on the course include tastings.

The L3 Award in Wine is a unitised course, covering wines of the world in considerable depth, and students are required to prove competency in theory and tasting. The examination for the Level 3 is in two parts: a theory examination of 50 multiple-choice questions and four short-answer questions, plus a tasting examination consisting of a blind tasting of two wines.

 

Course Program

The Level 3 Award in Wine course includes:

38 hours of instruction, completed in a variety of formats.
Tasting of an extensive selection of quality wines encompassing a broad variety of types and regions.
The official WSET Study Guide and course materials, provided to candidates prior to course commencement.

Dates and sessions for this course:

Session 1: Course induction and tasting technique.
Session 2: Natural factors and human influences in the vineyard.
Session 3: Human influences in the winery.
Session 4: White wines of Germany, Alsace, Austraia and Tokaj.

Session 5: White wines of Burgundy, Loire and Bordeaux.

Sessions 6: Red and rosé wines of Bordeaux, South West France and the Loire Valley.

Session 7: Study skills and further tasting.

Session 8: Red wines of Burgundy, Beaujolais and the red and white wines of the Northern Rhone Valley.
Session 9: Red, white and rosé  wines of Southern Rhone and Southern France. Redwings of Spain Part 1 and white wines of Spain and Portugal.
Session 10: Red wines of Northern Spain and red and white wines of Northern Italy.

Session 11: Red and white wines of central and Southern Italy, red wines of Portugal and red and white wines of Greece.

Session 12:  Premium red wines of New Zealand, USA and Australia.
Session 13: Premium white wines of New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, USA and Canada.
Session 14: Regional specialities of Australia, South Africa and USA. Premium red and white wines of Argentina and Chile.
Session 15: Sparkling wines.

Session 16: Fortified wines.
